Paisleys and Cats

September 16, 2010

The Painter’s Wife wrote a really nice feedback on her blog about our Receiving Blankets and Versavest Nursing Covers. Happiness!

We trust Babinski Mama Aimee for her super-eye when it comes to choosing fabrics for the nursing covers. As soon as she spots a design, it’s THE one. Here are the five new fabrics that we gathered for the Versavests. This week will be Paisleys and Cats…

Paisley - Pink

Paisley - Teal

These two have delicate designs in sheer fabric. It’s very soft and “flowy”. I really don’t know how to take a picture of these showing the translucent parts of the cloth. So behind it is a giant corrugated cardboard, a little bit near skin-color, to show its sheer-ness.

Paisley - Navy Blue

The Navy Blue has no sheer part. It is cottony soft. More for those who don’t like colors much. There are days that I don’t like colors, too. Remember, the rule less-is-more never goes wrong…

Cat - Baby Pink

Okay, so who wouldn’t die for a baby pink and gray leopard print? Even if I’m not breast feeding I still got one for myself. I match it with white, and looks good with denims, too! I love tying both ends on a knot. (Aimee taught me that.)

For a little trivia, the reason why we name our nursing covers, Versavest, is because of it’s versatility, how it is used as a breastfeeding cover and at the same time as a fashion piece. So it can still be functional whether you are not a mama milking cow anymore. 🙂

Cat -Silver

For me, when it comes to the design, this one is the most versatile of all, you can go casual or semi-formal with this gray on silver-gray cat print. Of course, the real breastfeeding mama Charlene couldn’t resist to get one.

There are two ways to wear our Versavest Nursing Cover. First is by wearing it the usual vest way then use one flap of the vest to cover you while baby is feeding. The flaps are wide enough. The second one is by wearing it in front, just like an apron. This is the traditional nursing cover way where the baby is under the cloth, totally covered. Since the vest is wide enough, plus the fabrics we use are light and soft, there is ventilation for baby. 🙂

It’s Springtime at BB!

September 10, 2010

September is in!

We’ve been getting emails, messages and calls for Babinski Baby to come out with our Blooms Collection again. While checking our archives, it was in September of 2009 that we released the designs out in the market…

Here are some…

Now we’re bringing it back! Currently made two proto samples, one in white and one in light gray.

The bloom is softer and more “ruffled” now and sleeves are still puffed 🙂

Now my main concern is… why is the grass in the garden greener, shiny and luscious this year than it was last year, just when it is not regimented enough? Hmmm… (Haha!)

Love you all. And Happy Birthday Blooms! Glad you still give us colors…

Belly Mama Fair

August 30, 2010

August 21, 2010, Babinski Baby was in the Belly Mama Fair by Lifestyle Network and Working Mom at the Rockwell Tent.

Even if the three of us are already moms, again and again, we still learned a lot from the talk, workshop and forums. Jampacked activities for the VIP’s… the MAMAS!

Here at the Johnson’s Baby booth, Mama Charlene is being taught the I Love You Massage

And the food booths outside are just way too healthy! Had fruitshake and sandwich from Rachel Alejandro’s Sexy Chef. Their menu for their South Beach Diet doesn’t taste like you’re on a diet at all.

Tin-tin Bersola Babao gave a talk about losing weight after giving birth…

Since the babies inside the tummy are the stars of this event, a Listening Lounge is prepared for them… There’s a big play area for kids, too!

Free pics! We goofed around here 🙂

From Paycheck to Passion

August 24, 2010

My friend Angel asked me Sunday morning what to give a close friend who is pregnant. Angel has always been supportive of what I do because we used to work together and shared our own office highs and lows. We were exchanging messages until she said something that struck me: “Good for you – your business keeps you from going back to corporate!” and that made me realize something… oh my gosh!… I DON’T have a job! and it’s been 2 years! 2 years since I left my executive post, YET I am still alive!!! Lived for 24 months without my paycheck, yet I am still breathing!

I guess most of you will agree with me that leaving the corporate world at this time of worldwide economic struggle is almost like suicide, specially when you have a family to feed.  “Will I survive? I don’t wanna give up my lifestyle! Will it still be possible to send our children to the best schools? What’s gonna happen to our future?” Two years ago, I definitely had these chaotic thoughts in mind and these were REAL concerns. I was on bed rest while pregnant with my 2nd child and tug-of-war thoughts like these filled my days and nights.  My parents were horrified with what I was going to do but when I got my husband’s go signal, I said – this is it, let’s do it!… and I should do it now before he changes his mind! And so I did. It was absurd but deep down inside, it felt soo right. There’s nothing wrong with living in a corporate world. I literally dwelled on it for 12 years. It’s just that I knew I was an entrepreneur at heart and being in corporate was just “borrowed” life for me. And when I finally stepped out of it, I was ready to face my new world – full of hope, big dreams and excitement! I was excited to live the life I’ve always envisioned – being a work-at-home mom, spending executive time with people that matter (my kids!!!), having businesses I am passionate about (and will give me income), and FINALLY having time to do most of the things I put off because I was always too busy!

Looking back, I couldn’t have done it without my husband’s support. He was my real-life leading man. He did not only provide for our needs, but he also took a more active role in loving and caring for me and our children. He was happier seeing me take care of the kids and him. He was happier seeing me happier! =) The good Lord also blessed me with a budding business I share with my two enterprising cousins. We were together last weekend at our bazaar and while having dinner, Charlene remembered we were celebrating our 2nd year anniversary already! Our business is still in its infancy stage (thank God it’s growing!) but we know it will be BIG in God’s time. Our biz gives me a different level of fulfillment and joy. Now, I am not only a mom to my two boys but also to my Babinski Baby.

For the past two years, I am fortunate to live a fuller life. It is soo different from the kind of life I had before but I am thankful for the detour God has directed me. Day by day, I am showered with new learnings – on being a wife, a mother (formative years are the most crucial!), being a mompreneur, a Christian and all other aspects of my now multi-faceted life.  And in the past two blissful years, here are some essentials in life that I’ve come to realize. Sharing them with you coz these really made an impact on me…

Dream Big. Live simply.

In everything, be grateful.

Appreciate even little things in everyday life.

Family first or regret it in the end.

Seek God and grow in Him.

Real friendships last, so treasure it.

Be healthier. Live healthier. Now!

You always have a better choice.

Value relationships – family, work, even in business.

Live and enjoy your passion.

Balance and moderation are key to everything.

Be true to yourself and others.

Love yourself and let that love overflow to others.

And all these things make a happier me.

And a happy woman in her thirty-somethin’ makes a happy and pretty 😉 wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend.

P.S. happy 2nd year anniversary Babinski Baby! =)

Mompreneurs are Cool

May 24, 2010

It was Expo Mom yesterday, the event that the Babinski Mamas look forward to every year. (But it was only me and Aimee who were there, because, guess what. Charlene gave birth to Chloe, the newest Babinski baby in town!) The Market was a blast! Janice and Rome of Mommy Mundo made it a success. Mommies really showed their thing back there. Mompreneurs rule the world!

Mompreneurs, as I put it, and as I describe what the three of us do, are stay-at-home moms who establish business at home so that they can help with the income and at the same time be hands-on to their children. They usually invent, innovate or improve products that they think would be beneficial to their co-mommies :-).

We launched our new 2-way Nursing Vest there, and it was all sold out even before we put it up in the website. It is really good and surprising to know that there are so many moms right now who believe in breastfeeding. The benefits of it!

For those who are still breastfeeding, don’t give up early. Do it as long as you can carry on. Personally I did get bouts of frustration when the hungry baby would start to look for me when I would be feeling like I wanted and NEEDED me-time. I was dehydrated. Had a hard time drinking and eating enough. Was down to 80 something pounds. Didn’t sleep much. Lost a tooth for every child. Plus I was emotionally drained and felt socially out of contact with the entire planet. And talk about the baby tooth! Heyyy, that’s a mean little bite! Okay baby, I’ll give it two years then we’re done, get it? As I’ve always said, having a newborn baby is not at all like a Johnson’s baby commercial where everything looks dreamy and powder-scented. Reality (literally) bites!

Aimee has Vitor breastfeeding for one and a half years now while Charlene is just starting all over again. My dear bunso, Maia, who is now two and a half, has decided to call it quits with me. After those two grueling but essential years…

…I felt like I’ve conquered the Seven Summits! Pant. Whew. Relief. Finally. Over. Relax. You mean it’s all over? That soon? 😉

For the breastfeeding mom, try our Babi Nursing Pillow. It puts the nursing mom’s body into an ergonomically correct position to prevent backaches. Plus, the Babi can be a helpful tool to support your baby’s upper body to prepare him for the crawling stage and support baby’s back to help him practice how to sit.

Jolly Roger is Here!

April 28, 2010

It was AWCP Bazaar again and the Babinski Mamas were dead tired. You see, when we have bazaars, we don’t have personal service crew and contractors with us. So if our co-bazaristas have scaffolds and high-tech lighting, we have wire-mesh with detachable wheels that we got from Divisoria, our Mecca, and a table lamp with a giant clamp. If our co-bazaristas have a team of three or four men carrying their goods, we have the three of us ladies to carry ours. And that means HEAVY and wa-poise. But then, who cares… we need this exercise once in a while. It keeps our feet on the ground and reminds us to be humble at all times.

So while Babinski Mamas Aimee and Charlene were in the booth with mommy customers, I was busy taking pictures of our new polo shirts for boys so I could post it on the website. Believe me, I’ve been attempting to do this for days, but the kids have a built-in sensor that if I am about to work they would ask me to read them a story or cuddle with them under the blanket, which is of course – irresistible.

I was taking the pictures in one corner near the a/c, on the cement floor which by the way made the fabrics looked cooler and rugged. No time for studio pictorials for our products, (plus there are two frugal moms in the group, sssshhhh). My Ate, my biggest critic, would tell me to iron the stuff that I post in the site, but I’d always reply with a, “Forget  it. My fifteen minutes is rare and precious…” So if you see folds and creases and strands of thread in our photos, blame no one else but me.

For this edition’s polo for boys, we choose something funkyish-babyish-boyish-rockstarish. Here comes Jolly Roger!

Babinski Mama Mae

First Post: Welcome, Babinski…

April 21, 2010

This is our first Word Press post and we’re still in the process of migrating all our previous blog entries. Too much work for a stay-at-home mom! It’s just that there’s so much to say goodbye to… and goodbyes make me sad 😦

It feels weird to be writing here, it’s like transferring to a new home where you feel like you have to start all over again without your familiar resources like the plumber, baker, grocer…  So we are still a newbie here and in the process of navigating the site if it is user-friendly, or mommy-with-a-baby-on-one-hand-and-keyboard-on-the-other friendly.

So for our first post…

We got an invite from Janice of Mommy Matters for the first Mompreneur Manila Meet-Up. So yesterday, together with our friends Indigo Baby, Pinoy Baby and other mommies, we had a seminar with Mommy Mundo (Mommy Matters) and learned that Mompreneurs would rule in 2011 (!) so don’t underestimate that Mama Bear! Just to sum up the four-hour seminar, as the equation goes,  it’s all about: your passion + advocacy + time management = successful mompreneur. And you can do all of it while in your pajamas!

There’s money in your passion, yes. But make sure to find your purpose in this world and also what you can give back to the world.
